The squeeze, by the numbers

Pick your squeeze

Every pair starts with the same question: how snug do you want your day? Crazy Compression answers it with two ratings, and both come in the same loud prints.

  • Standard 15-20mmhgGraduated compression for everyday use and all-day support. The one most people reach for first.
  • Mild 8-15mmhgThe gentler squeeze, for days when you want the print and a lighter hug.

Our innovative knitting technique creates graduated compression socks made from lightweight, breathable micro nylon with moisture control. The bars above are drawn to scale, so you can see how far apart the two ratings sit before you pick a size.

Everything here is knit by the same family that has been folding socks for decades, so the rating on the label is the rating on your leg.

Our story

3 Generations of North Carolina Sock Makers

Eight decades ago, Ethel and Alvin weren’t just a sweet couple in North Carolina; they were the sock-folding duo you never knew you needed. Alvin briefly dabbled in children’s sock moguldom but decided he’d rather catch fish than corporate headaches. So he downsized to a sock-finishing hobbyist business with one employee—presumably not a fish.

Flash forward to 1975: Mike Sr., our dad, strolls back from military service, ready for action. He buys the family biz for a whopping one-dollar bill. A single George Washington! Under his reign, the company grew like a teenager during a growth spurt. Mom was the numbers whiz, Dad was Mr. Operations, and us kids? We were the cleaning crew with excellent after-school attendance.

Sr decided Jr (big bro) needed a hobby beyond eye-rolls and teenage angst, so he got shipped off to our cousin’s knitting mill. He caught the knitting bug so badly that he joined the family biz in 2001. Timing wasn’t great; American sock-making was about as popular as flip phones.

But we dug in our heels—sock-covered, of course. By 2012, Nate, the youngest and arguably the most handsome among us, had a light bulb moment: Crazy Compression! One year later, Melanie, our sister and the family’s shipping guru, hopped on the sock wagon.

What the family says it stands for

  • Born in a living room, but not a sitcom
  • 80-plus years of sock wizardry
  • Baby bro designs, big bro knits, big sis ships—family sock synergy!
  • Made in America, with a side of apple pie
  • Produced in our familial sock sanctuary in Western North Carolina

Our Compression socks are made in our 3rd generation sock factory in Hickory, NC. Yeah, your classic 2 brothers 1 sister all-star sock team.

Standard and Wide Compression Socks

The sock drawer is open

Sixteen pairs pulled out for you, from spooky season to quiet plaid. Every one comes in Standard & Extra Wide, so the drawer fits more legs than the usual boring beige rack.

Not seeing your print? The full collection is one tap away, with more styles than any one drawer can hold.

THE MORE YOU ADD, THE MORE YOU SAVE

Build A Custom Pack

Pick your prints, pick your sizes, and watch the price per pair step down as the pack grows. Each rung of the ladder below is a bigger pack and a smaller number.

  1. Black knee-high compression sock

3 Pair Socks ($20 per Pair)

Three prints for a first lap around the drawer. A good size for testing which rating and which colors you actually reach for.

  2. Mermaid Teal knee-high compression sock

6 Pair Socks ($16.50 per Pair)

Six pairs is a proper rotation, enough that no two days in a row need to match. Mix the quiet and the loud.

  3. Fifth of May knee-high compression sock

10 Pair Socks ($15.50 per Pair)

The full run: your own drawer plus a few pairs to hand out. The lowest price per pair on the ladder.

7 Ways To Test Your Running Fitness

The run log

Ever wonder how fit you are as a runner? Testing your running fitness can help you understand your abilities and set realistic goals. Whether training for a marathon, improving your speed, or just staying in shape, knowing your fitness level can guide your training and boost your confidence. Here are seven tests, from beginner to advanced, lifted from the Crazy Compression blog.

1. The Yo-Yo Test

Also known as the beep or shuttle run test, the Yo-Yo test measures your speed and endurance. It involves running a 20-meter distance back and forth, with increasing intensity, until you can no longer keep up.

How to Perform: Run back and forth over 20 meters with short rest intervals, increasing speed each time.

What It Measures: Speed endurance and recovery ability.

Ideal For: Athletes looking to improve overall cardiovascular fitness.

2. The Magic Mile

The Magic Mile is a straightforward test that helps you understand your speed over one mile. After warming up, run a mile as fast as you can.

How to Perform: Warm up thoroughly, then run one mile at maximum effort.

What It Measures: Speed and endurance over a short distance.

Ideal For: Runners planning to set pace goals for longer races.

3. Yasso 800s

Yasso 800s involve running 800 meters consistently, with recovery intervals in between.

How to Perform: Run 800 meters at a consistent speed, rest, then repeat up to 10 times.

What It Measures: Speed endurance and pacing strategy.

Ideal For: Runners training for long-distance events like marathons.

4. The 26.2 Predictor

This test is designed for long-distance runners preparing for a marathon. Run at your marathon pace for 10 to 14 miles, then continue as far as possible until you reach 20 miles.

What It Measures: Long-distance endurance and race pacing.

Ideal For: Marathoners assessing readiness and setting realistic goals.

5. The 12-Minute test

This test, also known as the Cooper test, requires you to run as far as possible in 12 minutes. It's a simple yet effective way to measure aerobic fitness and endurance.

How to Perform: Run steadily for 12 minutes, then record your distance.

Ideal For: Runners of all levels, from beginners to advanced.

6. The 3-Minute test

This short but intense test measures your maximum effort over a three-minute period. It's useful for tracking progress in aerobic and anaerobic fitness.

How to Perform: After warming up, run as hard as possible for three minutes and record your distance.

Ideal For: Athletes in various sports, including running, cycling, and swimming.

7. The 5K Test

Running a 5K at your maximum pace is a great way to assess your endurance and speed. Use your time to set training paces for longer distances.

How to Stay Safe While Running

Use bright colors and reflective elements on your clothing, shoes, and accessories. Consider wearing reflective vests, armbands, or headlamps to increase your visibility to others. It's important to stay visible, especially in low-light conditions.

Avoid distractions like loud music or constantly checking your phone. Keep your attention on your surroundings, particularly in unfamiliar areas. Follow traffic rules and always run against traffic flow when on the road to see oncoming vehicles.

To enhance your safety:

  • Choose well-lit and populated routes.
  • Before you head out, share your planned route with a friend or family member.
  • Always carry your ID and emergency contact information with you.

Tips for Running in Different Weather Conditions

Wear light, moisture-wicking clothing, such as summer compression socks, that provide breathability and support to stay cool during hot weather runs. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking water frequently. Try to run during cooler parts of the day, like early mornings or late evenings.

To keep yourself dry, wear water-resistant clothing and shoes. A cap can help keep rain out of your eyes. Wear bright or reflective gear to remain visible to others, especially in poor visibility conditions.

Accessories: Fitness trackers or watches can help you monitor your progress and stay motivated. Carry a hydration pack or water bottle for longer distances to stay hydrated.

How To Stick With Your New Goals

Day-to-day challenges are simpler to tackle than lofty goals that feel unreachable. When you lay down at night tell yourself, tomorrow I’m going for a run. Set your alarm, put your running shoes and gear close by, have your water bottle prefilled and by the front door. Then do it.

Focus on the positive. Talk yourself up for that run. Look forward to it. Think of all the reasons you want to run, and the reward that awaits you at the end.

Life changes. Nothing today is the same as yesterday. Babysitters cancel, work calls asking for a double shift, injuries happen, dinner burns, life happens. None of these circumstances need to derail you in your goals. Instead, you simply have to find new paths to achieve your goal.
